This 2009 Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42 DS, built to 2010 specification and first sold in 2010, features three cabins and two en-suite heads. It is in excellent condition and was the 2009 Southampton Boat Show yacht. This yacht is specified for easy self-sufficient sailing with minimal crew, equipped with an in-mast furling mainsail, furling genoa, fridge, freezer, autopilot, diesel cabin heating, and much more. It has undergone many upgrades, including Flexi-teak decks, a new chart plotter, new sails, and a Liferaft. This vessel has all you need to live aboard. It has only 1061 engine hours as of 8th January 2024 and is being sold only because the owner is retiring from sailing. The yacht was re-launched in May 2024 following its annual out-of-water service.

Accommodation:

This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42DS will sleep nine people in two double aft cabins, one double forward cabin, and the saloon, which has a double and single berth.

The large owner's cabin forward has a central double berth, hanging lockers, and shelving to cabin sides. It includes a private en-suite heads compartment with a marine toilet, wash basin, and shower head with hot and cold water supply. The forward cabin also has a large opening deck hatch, making it light and airy.

The saloon features U-shaped seating to starboard and a bench settee to port, with “Ambiance Jaguar” upholstery. It has a large table with folding leaves that converts to a double berth. There is a TV aerial and a sliding chart table that can be moved to provide a forward-facing chart table or slide back for additional seating space on the port side. Diesel cabin heating is fitted throughout the saloon, all cabins, and heads. The saloon also includes a stereo/CD player with Bose speakers in the saloon and cockpit.

The L-shaped galley is to starboard and includes twin stainless steel sinks, a 12V fridge with a freezer compartment, and a two-burner gas stove with an oven and grill. There is ample storage in the galley for pots, pans, crockery, cutlery, and food.

There are two good-sized aft cabins with hanging lockers, shelves, and 32" opening portholes. An aft heads compartment is located to port with access from the saloon and aft port cabin, featuring a marine toilet with a holding tank, wash basin with hot and cold water supply, and shower.

Companionway steps lead up to the spacious cockpit, which has a central teak cockpit table with folding leaves, a range of lockers, and twin helms with easy access to the transom. It also features a full cockpit enclosure.

History & Construction:

Built by Jeanneau in 2009 to 2010 specification and first sold in June 2010, this Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42DS has a superb specification. It features a white GRP hull with a teak cockpit floor and Flexi-teak side decks and bathing platform. It has a cast iron deep fin keel and a 4HP bowthruster in a tunnel. The hot and cold transom shower and stainless steel bathing ladder were also included. The last out of the water was in March 2023 when antifouled, anodes changed, and hull polished. The cutlass bearing was also changed at this time. The owner is selling as they are retiring from sailing. This yacht was re-launched in May 2024 following its annual out-of-water service.

The Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42DS is a fractional rigged sloop with a silver anodised Seldon alloy deck-stepped mast. It has an in-mast furling mainsail and furling genoa with all lines led aft to the cockpit. It features a gas rod kicker and a German mainsheet system, making single-handed sailing very easy. It is also fitted with an asymmetrical spinnaker bow sprit pole and gear.

Mechanical Systems:

This Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 42DS has a Yanmar 4JH5E 54hp 4-cylinder diesel engine located under the companionway steps with 1061 hours as of 18th January 2024, and it comes with a full service history. The engine was last serviced in July 2023. It features a shaft drive to a three-blade folding propeller with a rope cutter. It is freshwater cooled via a heat exchanger and has single lever controls at the starboard helm position. The cutlass bearing was last changed in July 2023 and the shaft bearing in 2021.

This yacht has a plastic fuel tank that holds 130 litres. It will cruise at 7 knots at approximately 2200 RPM and has a maximum speed of 9 knots. It is equipped with a through tunnel 4HP bowthruster.

Electrical Systems:

5 x 110Ah 12V batteries (3 domestic new 2021 + 1 Engine new 2021), 1 x Bowthruster battery new 2021, all charging from the engine 50AH alternator. It has a 220V shore power system with a ring main and 220V sockets throughout, a 40AH battery charger, and an immersion heater.
